The New Moon in Capricorn

Jan 02, 2022

It is only fitting that we kick off a new year with a Capricorn new moon on January 2nd, 2022. This is a fresh start, and the mountain goat invites us to re-evaluate our goals. Perhaps you aren’t confident about achieving your new year’s resolution, or you have a goal that always seems to fall to the wayside. Uranus provides us with a divine opportunity to do things differently, and take a closer look at the foundations that support, or don’t support, our long-term visions. This is an invitation for major shifts in outlooks, values, and approaches.

Capricorn, the mountain goat, is the goal-setter of the zodiac, and this archetype means business. It climbs to the top of the summit with precision, patience, and perseverance. As the new moon transits through this constellation at the beginning of 2022, we are being presented with a fresh start. However, the celestial bodies invite us to choose our goals with intention, and awareness. There are plenty of mountains to climb, but which one is worth your time, energy, and commitment for the long-term? It isn’t just about the amazing view once you reach the summit, but the journey that the mountain offers you.

Capricorn is connected to structures, and foundations. With Venus retrograde conjunct Pluto in this sign, we are being asked to reflect on values, worth, love, money, relationships, and pleasure as foundations to our long-term goals. If the journey to the top of the mountain doesn’t truly provide you with lessons to deepen into love, pleasure, and worthiness, your foundations may be shaky. For example, say you set a new year’s resolution to go to the gym, but your underlying priorities do not support self-love. Perhaps you value what others think of you over your health, and well-being. Goals rooted in lack of love, will bare results that reflect this in the long-haul.

Pluto in Capricorn reminds us that buildings with unstable foundations are bound to come crashing down in the midst of changing winds (Uranus). Capricorn is a sign of resilience, and our strength to persevere comes from being in alignment with our authentic desires. If your goals don’t seem to pan out, or you don’t feel confident with a new year’s resolution, Uranus invites us to take a different path up the mountain.

The new moon forms a harmonious trine to Uranus in Taurus, planet of change and revolution. This is an opportunity to release stubborn habits, and look for different approaches to reaching your goals even if they may seem a little out-of-the box, or quirky. In order to re-center into authentic alignment, perhaps you decide to repeat a few mantras that support self-acceptance before going to the gym. Or, maybe you select work-out clothes that feel good to you, without placing too much emphasis on what others think. Pluto conjunct Mercury provides us with death of old mindsets, and rebirth into new revolutionary perspectives. With Taurus at play, this can also point to shifts around resources. Perhaps your relationship to money needs to change in order to better support your future vision.

Lastly, the ruler of Capricorn, Saturn, sits in Aquarius and forms a sextile to Mars in Sagittarius. Mars provides us with the initial excitement, passion, and motivation that comes with a new adventure. However, Saturn reminds us that fire eventually burns out without consistent, committed, and careful attention. While embarking on a new, and exciting journey up the mountain, don’t forget to pause, check in, and re-route if needed.

Happy Capricorn new moon, and happy new year!

Honoring the Capricorn new moon may look like…

  1. Doing shadow work: Shadow work can allow you to uncover what your true motives are. By diving into the subconscious mind, you can get clear on why you want what you want, and how you’re going about it. From there, you can bring in higher expressions of love, allowing you to re-center into authenticity.

  2. Setting new year’s resolutions from the heart: Sit in meditation, focusing on the heart chakra. From this place, allow future visions to emerge. Allow this to be the foundation for your future vision.

  3. Taking a different approach to reaching your goal: Make a list of different approaches you can take to reach your goals. Try each one, seeing what works, and what doesn’t. Don’t worry if it seems odd, or out-of-the box.
